Since the introduction of the iPhone, SlingMedia has taunted us with news of SlingPlayer Mobile for the device. Even when the Sling app finally entered the iTunes App Store approval process of mystery, the delay of the app’s release to the general public spawned talk of AT&T keeping Apple from approving the app. With the iPhone approaching its two-year anniversary, SlingMedia has finally kept its promise. read more

The Slingbox is a famous television-streaming device which enables users to remotely view their home’s cable, satellite, or personal video recorder from any network-enabled computer (or television). You can learn about SlingMedia and the SlingBox here . We’ve long been awaiting the ability to access SlingBox via the iPhone – and tomorrow it will finally be possible. The SlingPlayer Mobile application will be hitting the app store anytime between now and tomorrow morning. Here’s what you need to know: $30 WiFi only (which kinda means that you might as well use your laptop) Works with older SlingBoxes too Video streams well, screens load slow The application is excellent, and really pushes your iPhone’s limits. Unfortunately, due to AT&T, SlingPlayer Mobile will not be usable over 3G. [via Gizmodo ]

One Step Closer to SlingPlayer App?

First, there was the Slingbox, which let you access content on your DVR from your computer. Then there was the SlingPlayer for mobile devices — Blackberry, yes. iPhone, not so much. Destination: Tweetsville. Welcome to Tweetsville, population: you. Beyond its marginally cute name, Tweetsville is a solid Twitter client. It won’t wow you with its UI, and it doesn’t introduce any cutting-edge features. The odd thing is, it’s put out by Tapulous, the same company that puts out Twinkle. If Tapulous could combine the two apps, it would be the greatest Twitter app ever!

SlingPlayer for iPhone Coming Soon

Sling Media, Inc. have announced at Macworld that they are working on a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone . Demonstrations are being given at the conference, and the software would seem to be in the later stages of development. The software provides a way to push TV content wirelessly (via 3G or Wi-Fi) to your iPhone; everything including standard TV content, local channels and video on demand. The iPhone is also able to function as a wireless remote control for your digital video recorder, to control the playback of recordings and schedule new ones. Blake Krikorian, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media noted: SlingPlayer Mobile is ideally suited for the iPhone’s large touch screen display and I know iPhone users are eagerly anticipating the application’s availability. Add to that HD streaming support for Slingbox PRO-HD customers and live TV support on our video entertainment site, Sling.com, and you can see Sling Media is committed to delivering great solutions for Mac users. In addition, the company unveiled a prototype of the new SlingPlayer for Mac HD, allowing the streaming of HD content to your Mac. It will be a web based system, accessible from Sling.com. Availability & Pricing SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone is scheduled to be passed to Apple for certification in the first quarter of 2009, and will be compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch
