I love having database functionality at my disposal, but I’ve never wanted to bother with learning FileMaker just to keep track of my CD collection, family recipes or the Appletell writing staff. More importantly, I didn’t want to pay for the functionality of FileMaker when I knew I wouldn’t use it beyond 20% of its capabilities. So, I’d end up buying multiple proprietary database programs. One for tracking movies and CDs. One for books. One for recipes.

Hot on the heels of the 3.0.1 Aperture 3 update yesterday, Apple has released another update expanding Digital Camera Raw support to nearly a dozen more cameras in Aperture and iPhoto ‘09. This update extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’09 for the following cameras: – Hasselblad H3DII-50 – Leica M9 – Leica X1 – Olympus E-P1 – Olympus E-P2 – Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 – Pentax K-7 – Pentax K-x – Sony Alpha DSLR-A500 – Sony Alpha DSLR-A550 – Sony Alpha DSLR-A850 RAW mode allows you to import images with no compression loss whatsoever, for the highest quality pictures.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, nothing Big Blue. How big a fanboy are you? Big enough to hold your wedding in an Apple Store? Joshua and Ting Li are! The 5th Avenue store in New York City was host to their wedding on Valentine’s Day, and the service was conducted by a pastor dressed like Steve Jobs—who even quoted Jobs in the ceremony. We really shouldn’t be surprised. After all, the Apple Store Dating Blog was started back in 2008 so it just seems natural that after people spend enough time dating there, marriages are going to follow. We’ve got the video below for you, and still pics are available at the aptly-named trashyyetclassy.com . No word on whether he was a Tiger or a Leopard on the honeymoon, and whether it was completely wireless. We are pretty certain that neither Lisa nor Newton were invited. Maybe Apple TV will have exclusive clips. But not in Flash format.

The Celebrity Cruise ship company has announced a new Internet Cafe on the new 2,850 passenger Celebrity Eclipse which sets sail in April. The iLounge, as Celebrity has named it, will include a mini Apple Store where passengers can buy MacBooks, iPods and other accessories. Passengers will also be able to sign up for courses in iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb. Two other new ships are coming on line in 2011 and 2012, and both will have the iLounge aboard. Celebrity operates ships that cruise to Alaska, The Caribbean, Europe, South America, Canada and New England. This isn’t the first time Macs have gone to sea. Back in 2008 we reported on Macs being installed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for passenger use.

Aperture is Apple’s pro equivalent to iPhoto, and some of the features they’ve added today seem to play off of that relationship.  Aperture 3 now supports Projects, Faces, Places and Brushes. Projects, Faces and Places – Now, Aperture has more tools for organizing your photos. Projects are similar to Events in iPhoto. Faces uses face detection and recognition just like iPhoto to identify specific people across your photo library. And with Places, Aperture now supports GPS data just like iPhoto. The Press Release cites support for “GPS enabled cameras, tracking devices or your iPhone photos.” It will be interesting to see the support available for tracking devices. Brushes – Aperture 3 comes with 15 Quick Brushes to apply effects efficiently to your photos. It can even detect edges to increase your precision when painting effects onto your image. Exporting – Aperture can now easily export your photos to Facebook or Flicker.  It can also export slideshows as HD videos with many options. These can even be exported directly to iTunes so you can share your work with others on an iPhone, iPod touch or soon an iPad.

According to Download Squad , Divvyshot is a new photo-sharing service with both a web interface and iPhone app to help you combine all of your photos from one event into a single album that an entire group can access. The developer is even promising to add desktop applications to the equation soon as well. The showiest way to share photos using Divvyshot is to hold two iPhones together and shake them. The result is you can quickly share virtual stacks of photos between two handsets without having to actually sync or transfer the files — instead, the iPhone user you’re sharing with gets access to the already-uploaded photos on the Divvyshot servers, and the second device pull those files down from the cloud. To speed the process up, Divvyshot only downloads iPhone-quality versions of the photos, similar to how iTunes optimizes your iPhoto library prior to syncing your pictures. However, anyone you’ve given access to your albums can hit the website and download high-resolution versions as well. Rounding out Divvyshot’s sharing abilities, the service also integrates nicely with Flickr, Twitter and Facebook — almost a necessity in today’s world of social networking — which makes sharing your photos on multiple sites quick and easy. Compatible with both iPhone and iPod touch, Divvyshot is available as a free download from the App Store and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

And you thought the iSnort app was the last word in iPhone-based cocaine use… Boris from TheNextWeb was in Amsterdam recently and spotted an interesting item in a souvenir-shop window: No, not the “I Love Holland” undies.  Look closer… Yep, someone combined an iPhone with a scale to weigh cocaine.  And for the modest price of only forty-five Euros, to boot. Now, the last time we checked, snot detergent was still very, very illegal in Amsterdam — the same city, mind you, that tolerates hot hookers and cool cannabis buds.  And it’s not impossible to think of uses for an iPhone with a built-in scale that DON’T involve Peruvian marching powder: Cooking, for example.  Or keeping track of your gerbil’s low-calorie diet. Freaky Fotos Pro allows you to add ghostly images to your photos. What else would you expect from an app we’re covering on Christmas Eve? How does it work? You’ve likely seen the supposed “real” images of people or places with ghostly forms floating in the background (or, more accurately, floating on semi-transparent Photoshop layers). Freaky Fotos makes it easy to create such images, albeit in a limited and buggy capacity. You can select an image already on your iPhone, or you can take your own. Once you’ve got it open, the ghost is laid on top of it. Nearly 25 ghosts are currently included, although many of these are simply heads, faces or body parts.
