Section: iPhone + Communications , iPhone Ringing in the new year is the iPhone Dev Team, who have just made available their iPhone 3G unlock software, entitled “yellowsn0w.“ Contradicting their previous blog posts, however, is the fact that this only runs on the 2.2 firmware, whereas the Dev Team had stated the unlock would not work on this version of the firmware. Additionally, the Dev Team has dubbed the software as version 0.9.1, citing its beta stage of development—only use it if you really are sure of what you’re doing. Section: Apple News , Rumors , iPod + iTunes , iPod touch You may be sick of hearing and seeing rumors of an Apple tablet device as they have been around for as long as touch screens have ( iTablet , anyone?). However, this rumor is a little bit different. Mike Arrington at TechCrunch is reporting that Apple customers should be prepared to see a 7” to 9” screen iPod Touch device sometime in the near future, most likely by fall of 2009. Supposedly, Apple is already talking to OEMs about mass production and some of TechCrunch’s sources have already gotten their hands on prototypes. Although this device would be interesting to see, I’m not sure if it is all that plausible. There are already millions of iPod Touches and iPhones on the market, so introducing a larger, more expensive model may not be worth it. That is, unless this model also supports Mac OS X, which I would think it would have to. A 7” to 9” device isn’t really one that I want to be carrying in my pocket as simply a music playing device, that’s for sure. I don’t know if it’s because people think they’re cute animals or if the word “monkey” is just fun to say, but can we please start passing some of that love onto the jackalope or the platypus, both of which are equally fun to say? 2.) You’ve created the perfect iPhone game. Now, but let me qualify that. Ivory Tiles is not for everyone. It’s a puzzle game. I know that turns a lot of people off, and that’s fine. But as far as puzzle games go—and when it comes to use of the iPhone/iPod touch’s accelerometer—Ivory Tiles is the best I’ve seen yet. The point of Ivory Tiles is to slide any number of (get this) ivory tiles onto certain squares on the game board.
