Filed under: Gaming , Software , Apple , Developer When I was reminded of its name at GDC, I couldn’t recall hearing much about Engineous Games. It’s the development studio founded by Nitzan Wilnai, a former software developer at EA and Yahoo who’s gone to work making iPhone games for himself. But I did recall Engenious’ first title, Tatomic, which I wrote about a while ago — it was a great puzzler that put a new spin on Tetris’ falling block gameplay. Unfortunately, despite my purchase, Tatomic didn’t sell as well as Wilnai would have liked, so he’s decided to “create a game that would sell itself.” It’s called Sketch Nation Shooter, and he sat down to show it to me last week in San Francisco. He started off the demo by promising that he would make a game for me in two minutes, and sure enough, 98 seconds later, he had a custom spaceship shooter game up and running, as you can see in the photo above. I mean, that’s the norm for an app reviewer, where our iPhone gaming schedule is pretty much dictated by the review requests we get. Therefore, we glossed over Zenonia at the time of its release, and that was a mistake. Zenonia’s nearly a year old, you see, having been released in the U.S. in May of 2009. So, why play through it now? Because Zenonia 2 is due out this month, and if that game is half as cool as it looks , you owe it to yourself to work through its predecessor before it’s released. In Zenonia, you play Regret. I kid you not, the main character is named Regret, which servers as proof to emo kids everywhere that their parents could be worse. Regret comes form unknown origins, of course.

We took some time to talk with the developers at Mono Touch to discuss their software that allows developers to create iPhone native apps from C# and .NET based apps. The app helps independent and big time developers deliver games and applications to the mobile device by offering the tools to code apps that utilize the iPhone’s operating system. Recently, Mono Touch also released support for the iPad SDK. This sofware is available for the average coding consumer and is free to try .
