Filed under: Odds and ends , Apple It must be nice to be the host of your own popular Comedy Central show and a host on the Grammy Awards . Why? You get to play with an iPad. No, it’s not one of Tim Meehan’s faux iPads – this was a working unit that flipped from portrait to landscape mode when Stephen Colbert pulled it out of his jacket… or pants. Enjoy this short piece of video from tonight’s Grammy Award ceremonies. Though the announcement of Apple’s iPad has met with the typical mixture of hyperbolic praise and hyperbolic criticism (no one can talk sensibly about it), there has been one consistent complaint that most would agree is valid: a device this powerful should be capable of some form of multitasking. But I think I have the

Section: Apple News In order to be considered a true Apple geek, you need to own at least one shirt themed with Apple, Steve Jobs, or any of their products. There are numerous companies that make shirts geared towards this group of people, but it can be a pain having to find the designs yourself. Thankfully, a blogger by the name of Coty has taken the time to compile 101 of the best designs and put their links and images all on one post. After looking through the list, I was delighted to see I already own some of the shirts, such as the one you see in the image above. However, I was also surprised at how many of the designs I hadn’t seen before. Not only that, but most of them are actually worth buying, too. The best part about shirt designs such as these is they have a style, color, and message for almost anyone looking to buy one. For instance, they range from politically themed shirts with Macs demonstrating “change” (much like President Obama) to shirts that help fuel the Microsoft-Apple debate. The list is definitely worth a look for anyone in the market for a new shirt or two. And for those of us who don’t work at the Apple Store and get those awesome employee shirts, these are the next best thing. What it is: Skimble is a fitness-tracking iPhone app that stands out from the crowd by keeping track of rock climbing, swimming, and even yoga. Why it’s cool: Maria Ly created Skimble because she found no good tools for tracking the sports she had become passionate about in recent years. Basically, she’s become a very good

Boy Genius Report has an interesting chart of Apple’s price points. The site claims the chart shows that Apple has all the price points covered: “From $59 to $7,000, if you want an Apple product, there’s a pretty darn good chance you’ll be able to pick something in your price range. Simply brilliant,” says the site. But

Section: iPhone / iPod touch / iPad , iPhone , iPhone Carriers AT&T, the company we all know and love hate, has stated in their quarterly earnings call that they plan to beef up their network quite heavily this year. Beyond what they already spend to upkeep their network, they plan to spend an additional $2 billion or so simply to make their network stronger. Admitting their 3G coverage isn’t good enough is most likely due to the increased attack ads by Verizon in terms of network coverage. And I have to say, we should all thank Verizon for being so blunt in pointing it out to AT&T; maybe that’s what they needed. The iPhone has certainly been the device to point out their weaknesses in coverage, and the launch of the iPad in two months or so isn’t going to help. With this extra money being put towards the network, we can only hope it helps. While the iPad will give consumers a bit more of a choice in networks in terms of having a prepaid AT&T plan and allowing unlocked SIM cards, the iPhone is still unfortunately locked into AT&T. For the people stuck with this network, a refresh in terms of speed and reliability would certainly be met with open arms. For AT&T’s sake, I just hope it’s not too late. Once (if ever) the iPhone is available on more networks, we may see an influx of people leaving, so AT&T needs to do all that they can before that happens.
