Section: Macintosh / Apple Hardware , Peripherals Want to record audio on the go? Zoom has the perfect tool to record better than CD quality stereo audio on the go. It’s called the Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, and it’s small enough to fit in your pocket but it won’t break the bank. The H1 records linear PCM (WAV) files at 24-bit/96 kHz, which they say is higher quality that a CD, though you aren’t likely to have source material of similar quality. There are two microphones on the business end of the H1, separated by 90 degrees. That’s to acheive the separation of left and right tracks that should sound as natural as possible. Audio is recorded onto a MicroSD card, which can be as large as 32GB. You can download the resulting files with a USB cable. Controls are minimalist on this guy. On the front there is a relatively large record button directly below the screen and that’s it. On the side there are some transport controls and on the back is where you’ll find some setting switches. There are tons of possibilities with the Handy Recorder. It can be used for interviews, recording meetings, seminars, concerts, practice sessions etc. You can even use it as a replacement microphone on your DSLR that takes video to improve the quality of sound. Actually, they sell an accessory kit for the H1 for $25 that makes this super easy, as well. There’s a tripod, mic clip adapter, a windscreen, a case, charger and USB cable. The Zoom H1 Handy Recorder retails for $99.99 and should be available starting today. You can read more about the details of the H1 on the Samson website .
