Steve Jobs calls the iPad Apple’s “most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device” and I’m certainly not one to disagree. The iPad boasts significant advances over the iPhone in terms of hardware and software which makes me wonder, how much of that advanced technology could make it’s way into a future Apple TV? Hardware While the current Apple TV boasts an Intel Pentium M 1.0GHz processor, Apple’s advances in its own chip design could pave the way for a custom processor fine tuned for the device. Apple’s reason for custom chips in the mobile arena is to provide them with what they need while giving them more control over other aspects, such as battery life. While this isn’t a concern with the Apple TV, certainly a more powerful chip while still being power efficient is desirable. A custom chip would give Apple more flexibility over performance as well. Consider the video formats the iPad can play. Many were shocked to see support for full 720p at 30 frames per second and support for .avi files up to 35Mbps

The iPhone has a number of advantages over its smartphone competitors, but one thing it hasn’t had that users have been clamoring for is true multitasking. Push notifications were intended as a workaround designed to give users the ability to stay up-to-date with multiple apps without having to actually run them at the same time. It’s still only a partial solution, though, and one many iPhone users aren’t satisfied with. True multitasking is still high on the want list of many iPhone users, and really remains the only thing not addressed by the many major feature additions iPhone 3.0 brought. Luckily, true app backgrounding capabilities are said to be on the way in iPhone 4.0. That’s according to sources AppleInsider describes as having a “proven track record in predicting Apple’s technological advances.” According to those same sources, though, Apple still has a ways to go before it can introduce these features to iPhone users. But the problem doesn’t lie with the iPhone’s ability to run multiple applications at once. In fact, the iPhone is quite good at multitasking in its current incarnation. Nike+ runs great while you do other things like take calls and/or check your email. But it’s the only non-Apple app that’s allowed that privilege.

And you’re probably not surprised that the story doesn’t stop there. No, we actually gained some real information about the iBookstore, how documents may be stored on the iPhone, and a little more about the rumor that just won’t die, a front facing camera. Pricing on the iBookstore seems fairly reasonable.  Books appear to be running between $12.95 and $14.95. 9to5Mac points out that True Compass (Ted Kennedy’s memoir) drops at $14.95, whereas it’s hardcover and Kindle equivalents run $23 and $19.25 respectively. That’s not bad…if you like books. I don’t. I still think there should be some books that are free of charge—stuff like Moby Dick , Grimm’s Fairy Tales or the Bible. Texts that can be found online, legally, for free. Perhaps Apple will do something like this; they haven’t exactly outlawed it. We’ll have to wait and see.

They have numerous options, but the best option with both price and portability in mind is the smallest external battery aimed at notebooks, the MBP-060.  It’s ideal for when you need extra power on the go for a single day.  For most users, that’s enough.  And it’s not limited to just your MacBook.  You can also use it to power any of your USB gadgets, which makes it a perfect accessory for the iPad.  While Apple claims 10+ hours of battery life, in practice, that may be different.  And even if it is correct, there are times when you just don’t have access to a power outlet for an extended period of time.  This battery will keep you going. Now a quick word of warning; while this battery can, and will charge a 15.4 or 17 inch MacBook Pro, it doesn’t do so efficiently.  These models draw more watts than this model of battery is most efficient at providing.  They say the this may reduce the charging abilities of this battery for these models of MacBook Pros to 70%.  That’s still pretty useful, though, and not an issue for any MacBook with a smaller screen.  It’s also not a concern of the iPad.  Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program. This battery is a bit different from the larger capacity batteries offered by HyperMac.  Its design is a bit more sleek, and since it’s targeted towards MacBook Air users, it has the MacBook Air connector as the default option.  Mind you, the Air MagSafe connector will work just fine with other MacBooks, even larger Pros.  And honestly, it looks nicer

That all sounds pleasant enough, but to really flex your world-domination muscles, we found two turn-based strategy games that ape the classic gameplay of Risk. So whaddya say, after lunch we try to conquer the world?   Lux Delux   Hyperaddictive Lux Delux is different every time thanks to its staggering number of maps. The game starts you off with 10 built-in maps, then its Plugin Manager provides another 600-plus others for download–and more are coming out every day. Most of the maps are made by developers using Sillysoft’s Java-based SDK, but Lux Delux also has a built-in map editor so you can roll your own with no coding required. It’s hard to imagine ever getting bored. This keyboard-shaped map is a good example of the creativity in Lux Delux’s map selection. In each game, you can battle up to five opponents drawn from any mix of players using the same Mac, network players, and computer-controlled players.
