Here’s the exact quote from an Apple rep sent to TUAW : “Customers can pre-order online at apple.com at 5:30am Pacific time on Friday, March 12.” So, are you going to preorder an iPad? If so, which one ? If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably having a hard time choosing between the six models you have to pick from. Let me break it down for you. The WiFi only model, while functioning nearly identically to the 3G version, will only access the internet using WiFi. And with how easy it is to find a WiFi hotspot these days, that’s not really that big of an issue if you aren’t hopelessly addicted to the net. Not only will this save you $130 upfront, you won’t have to wait the extra few weeks for the 3G version, and you won’t have to worry about paying AT&T $30 a month at any point in the future for iPad 3G Internet access. iPad preorders to start at 8:30 AM EST Friday

And you’re probably not surprised that the story doesn’t stop there. No, we actually gained some real information about the iBookstore, how documents may be stored on the iPhone, and a little more about the rumor that just won’t die, a front facing camera. Pricing on the iBookstore seems fairly reasonable.  Books appear to be running between $12.95 and $14.95. 9to5Mac points out that True Compass (Ted Kennedy’s memoir) drops at $14.95, whereas it’s hardcover and Kindle equivalents run $23 and $19.25 respectively. That’s not bad…if you like books. I don’t. I still think there should be some books that are free of charge—stuff like Moby Dick , Grimm’s Fairy Tales or the Bible. Texts that can be found online, legally, for free. Perhaps Apple will do something like this; they haven’t exactly outlawed it. We’ll have to wait and see.

The ad itself races through (with shortened sequences, of course) several features of the device, making it seem irresistible to potential customers, and giving you the chance to “Meet iPad,” as the title suggests. Like many of you, I was already convinced I wanted to pick up an iPad on launch day, but if you weren’t sure, maybe seeing the advert changed your mind. The Oscars seems to be an important event for Apple. The “Hello” iPhone advert premiered during the 2007 Oscars awards, and according to sources on Twitter, Steve Jobs was spotted on the red carpet at this years event—likely for his strong connections with Pixar and Disney. We’ll likely see a couple more advertisements in the run up to April 3rd iPad release , and we’ll keep you posted. First iPad ad hits screens during the Oscars [video]

The WiFi models will be able to be picked up or reserved in the Apple Store for April 3rd, while buyers who want the WiFi/3G model will have to wait until late April to get their hands on the product. As far as pricing goes, you can expect the following for WiFi models: $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB. If you’re interested in 3G models along with WiFi, the prices are$629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB. The decision between the WiFi vs. 3G iPad will be a tough one. While the above dates and prices are for the United States, the press release also states, “iPad will be available in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models in late April in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. International pricing will be announced in April.

And considering how simple their advertisements seem to be, they probably don’t take all that much time to produce (especially considering they all have the same basic concept of just a hand and an iPhone). Now, Apple is at it again with three more iPhone advertisements spotlighting some of the most useful functions and applications of the device. The first one, entitled “First Steps,” starts with a mom recording her newborn child taking his first steps. She then seamlessly is able to MMS it to her mom and dad so they can share the moment. From there, they enter a conference call about the clip and child. Overall, this commercial sort of overviews how an iPhone can make sharing media and experiences an easy and exciting experience.

Many of the venders are the same each year, using the expo as a time to launch variations of similar products. That’s fine, as that’s what Macworld Expo is for, but it really starts to get fun when you stumble upon the booth of a new hardware or software developer happy to demonstrate something you’ve never seen before. Here are Appletell’s three most surprising finds of Macworld Expo 2010: a Twitter service for businesses, a photocard app for the iPhone, and a speaker system for everyone. Bill Stiteler It’s hard to say if there’s a “find” on the show when it’s half the size; not much can be lost. But as a social media wonk, I was intrigued by Tap 11’s product pitch: a business backend for Twitter and the like that gives you backend data on your clickthroughs, the best time to post, and so on. Still in private beta, so we’ll have to wait to see how well it works when it comes out. Macworld 2010: Appletell’s most surprising finds

Now that we’ve had a chance to settle down and review our notes and brochures, the Appletell staff in attendance has selected our favorite products of Macworld 2010: a camera card, some competition for AppleTV, and a helicopter that wasn’t even a part of the show. Bill Stiteler My favorite product (which, oddly, enough wasn’t being even shown at the show) was the Parrot AR.Drone quadricopter. You have no idea how unbelievably cool this thing is, especially with the two stream video cameras. The fact that they still haven’t released word on pricing or availability makes me think it’s only going to be available to the Sharper Image crowd (do they still exist?), but as a high-end iPhone/iPod touch toy, nothing even comes close. Product [ Parrot AR.Drone quadricopter ] Ed McKell I would pick the Eye-Fi Pro X2 as my favorite product from the show. I’ve been keeping an eye on their products for a long time, but I never felt it was something I wanted to purchase. With the Pro X2, however, they have given it the features such as endless memory and the Class 6 SDHC performance level that makes me consider this as something I can really use. Product [ Eye-Fi Pro X2 ] Kirk Hiner Visiting Western Digital’s booth, I certainly wasn’t expecting to find competition for Apple TV. But there it was, a full HD 1080p media player that allows you to play videos, photos and music from a USB drive, your network or the Internet on your TV.

Macworld 2010: Appletell’s favorite products

Section: Rumors , Apple News , Steve Jobs Up until this point in his life, Steve Jobs (the world’s best CEO ) has no biography written about him that involved his participation simply because he hasn’t been willing to help any of the authors. And while there may be plenty of books about him regardless, none of them can be as interesting as one in which he’s had a large part in creating. According to new information from the New York Times, Steve Jobs has finally agreed to a collaboration on the project with an author named Walter Isaacson. Walter has already written two best selling biographies, one about Einstein and one about Ben Franklin, so this isn’t his first time around the block. While Mr. Isaacson declined to say anything about his possible involvement in Steve Jobs’ biography, that, in and of itself, may help prove it. After all, I’m sure Steve wants the secrecy of this book to be just as tight as any of his product announcements.

But if you want to buy films that feature nudity from the iTunes store, that’s A-Okay! Where to begin? Techcrunch has the story from the makers of Wobble iBoobs ( reviewed by yours truly and found to be juvenile but not particularly obscene) that Apple has unilaterally decided to remove it: We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application. Also removed: Yoga4Dudes which features clothed women doing Yoga poses, and Hooters Calendar Girls Crazy Eights. But what can you buy from Apple? The Hangover (Unrated) , The 40 Year Old Virgin (Unrated) , and Black Dynamite which not only features nudity, but actual porn stars . So clearly, Apple doesn’t hate nudity, it hates cleavage .
