For its iPad iteration, the game takes the name Tap Tap Radiation. This time around, the game is not only bigger and bolder, but also twice the fun. As expected, Tapulous takes full advantage of the iPad’s larger screen real estate. The result is a more colorful, eye-appealing music game that makes you crave more and, therefore, purchase the paid tracks after completing the five tracks that come free by default. If you’ve played other Tap Tap games before on your iPhone, you know this game is all about timing and accuracy.  As a refresher, the objective of the game is to tap the glowing orbs at the right time. Every time you fail to tap on those orbs with the correct timing, the orbs will glow in red color. This signifies that you’ve tapped on an off-beat. You can glance at the right side of the screen where an indicator will tell you whether you are tapping on time, too late or too early.

That makes sense, considering the company’s principals are Garry Kitchen and David Crane, the resumes for whom date back to the Atari 2600 when technology forced all games to be simple, and developers still had to find ways to make them fun. Although technology has obviously advanced, AppStar is still taking a basic approach to gameplay. This is smart, because too many iPhone/iPad games have been ruined by horrible controls that just don’t work on the device. With Iron Horse, there’s no virtual d-pad or no tilting, you just tap. And it works here. Basically, a train is driving along the screen. Eventually, the last car on the train will pass by a car parked on a lower track. At the right moment, you tap the screen to connect that car to your train. A perfectly timed tap will improve your score, and four of these reward you with Free Turns you can stock up to use when things are going too quickly. A miss will penalize you, and you lose the game if you get three on one train.

It has no business being there. It’s too big, both in presentation and scope. I said the same of its predecessor—Zenonia—but it’s doubly true here. This game needs to be on the iPad, and it needs to be there yesterday. I therefore have to be honest with you…I haven’t completed Zenonia 2. I’m going to, but not until it either gets an iPad optimized release or until I’m 100% convinced that it never will. Regardless, read on with the knowledge that I didn’t reach the ending. As mentioned above, Zenonia 2: The Lost Memories is the sequel to the wildly popular and genre-defining (on the iPhone, anyway) Zenonia . Both games are top-down RPG adventures in the grand tradition of The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (game reviewers are contractually obligated to compare all RPGs to Zelda), and both therefore feature the same basic style of gameplay. You use the tiny virtual d-pad (I continue to hate virtual d-pads, but what are you gonna do?) for movement, controlling one of four tweenaged warriors. I’ll never understand the appeal of controlling 12-year-olds with swords in action adventure games, but I’ll call it a necessary evil of the gaming world and move on. The developers at least understood that the iPhone control system is annoying, so they compensated with features such as auto-facing enemies and easily accesible skills
