Fandango The iPhone, at least in its excessive marketing campaign, is often described as a possible hub for almost every type of function you can think of.   This is part of the shift to integrate everything onto a little portable device that you take with you everywhere.   For many people this means creating constant access to your IM and email accounts, and for others it means connecting with almost everything they do on a regular basis.   This can be as major as connecting to a bank account or something as simple as checking movie times.   There have been a number of free iPhone applications that will provide most of the movie services but, just like online, Fandango proves to be one of the best.   The Fandango free iPhone application is based around getting you the information about movies, which you can look at in a few different ways.   You can look at the films themselves, either those In Theaters or those Coming Soon, and then select to see production information or information about where they are playing.   You can also search by your areas to find theaters and then see what is playing there, and once here you can select the film to get information.   Fandango is also well known for allowing you to buy movie tickets ahead of time, and you can also get involved in this by logging in to your Fandango account.   Fandango turns out to be a pretty solid, though sometimes sluggish, application for movie information.     What Does My Name Mean Every simple programmer is looking to get you to download their free iPhone application.   Free iPhone applications are the easiest way to get an advertisement for a pay one, or a local banner ad.   What Does My Name Mean, which is also sub headed with 'FREE, FREE, FREE," gives you a large list of names that you can choose from.

Section: Apple News , Commercials and Ads , iPhone / iPod touch / iPad , iPad If you were watching the Oscars last night, you may have caught sight of Apple’s brand new advertisement for the much awaited iPad . The ad itself races through (with shortened sequences, of course) several features of the device, making it seem irresistible to potential customers, and giving you the chance to “Meet iPad,” as the title suggests. Like many of you, I was already convinced I wanted to pick up an iPad on launch day, but if you weren’t sure, maybe seeing the advert changed your mind. The Oscars seems to be an important event for Apple. The “Hello” iPhone advert premiered during the 2007 Oscars awards, and according to sources on Twitter, Steve Jobs was spotted on the red carpet at this years event—likely for his strong connections with Pixar and Disney. We’ll likely see a couple more advertisements in the run up to April 3rd iPad release , and we’ll keep you posted. Sources from within Apple are claiming that the iPad will be in stores starting March 10, if a recent Examiner post is to be believed. Examiner’s report claims that the tablet devices will be hitting Apple retail stores early in order to give employees and employees only , plenty of time to get up-to-speed with using the new tablet device, ahead of its official launch. The iPad is expected to arrive before the month is out, with many blogs increasingly hinting at a March 26 launch date . Examiner sources, which allegedly include an anonymous “Apple Store manager in Southern California,” also claimed that the iPad’s advertisement campaign will kick off around the 15th of this month. The advertisement campaign is said to be focusing heavily on the iBookstore and e-book capabilities of the upcoming device, no doubt with an intent to take some steam out of the Kindle’s successes. Finally, the Examiner report also hinted that individuals who set up camp ahead of the launch, in order to become one of the first to get their hands on an iPad, will be rewarded. Just what this Apple related reward may be is unknown.

iPad to Hit Stores March 10, But Only for Employees?

The popular movie rental service, Netflix, is sending out a survey to some of its top customers asking about their interest in a possible app for the iPhone and even the iPad, according to 9 to 5 Mac . Here’s what those customers got: "Imagine that Netflix offers its subscribers the ability to instantly watch movies & TV episodes on their iPhone.  The selection availability to instantly watch includes some new releases, lots of classics and TV episodes.  There are no advertisements or trailers, and movies start in as little as 30 seconds.  You can fast-forward, rewind, and pause or watch again.  The movies & TV episodes you instantly watch are included in your Netflix membership for no additional fee. Whenever you want to instantly watch content on your iPhone, your iPhone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network (such as one you might have at home or at work, or in public places like coffee shops, book stores, hotels, airports, etc.) If this functionality were available, how likely would you or someone in your household be to instantly watch movies & TV episodes on your iPhone via a Wi-Fi network?" Netflix has previously sent out similar surveys for the PS3 and the Wii, leading most to believe the company isn’t just pulling the wool over our eyes.   So if the above were true MaclLifers, would you be game for a Netflix app, even if AT&T doesn’t allow it on 3G just yet?  Feel free to leave comments below! From stick figures with a genocidal desire for blood to penguins that eat ice cream even when running across ice here are some iPhone games that take surprisingly different approaches to time wasting. Solitaire Solitaire is a standard for time killing ever since Windows 95 gave you the bouncing decks of cards.   Now every clerical and cubicle worker in America knows the inner workings of the game deeply, especially when their boss isn't working.   It serves to reason that the iPhone would be a main hub for Solitaire and other card games, and developers have not disappointed us too greatly.   The new free iPhone game, which lucked out with being called just Solitaire, is a decent port of this for the iPhone.   There are few surprises in Solitaire, which may be the point.   When you open this free iPhone game you get to choose to start a new game or resume one that you were just on, which allows you to go back if you have to close it suddenly to pretend like you're working.   This may be the only feature that really sells Solitaire beyond the obvious.   Before each game you can select the specifics you want, such as if you want to draw one or three cards at a time.   Inside gameplay is exactly as you would imagine, with visuals being about as on point as you could expect.   The only detraction from Solitaire is that there are advertisements on the main menu for other games, but since they do not actually work their way into the game itself this is not too much of an issue

Apps for the iPhone and iPod touch are designed for use while being held. There’s an exciting new use case that comes with the iPad — when it’s sitting in the dock. Owners not only have a new device to read news while on the couch, but they also have the perfect peripheral display. What’s a peripheral display? Something that provides basic information without distracting you from your primary task. It runs silently in the background and it’s there when you need to retrieve some glanceable information. You already use plenty of them every day: clocks, stock tickers, weather icons, unread email icons, etc

And considering how simple their advertisements seem to be, they probably don’t take all that much time to produce (especially considering they all have the same basic concept of just a hand and an iPhone). Now, Apple is at it again with three more iPhone advertisements spotlighting some of the most useful functions and applications of the device. The first one, entitled “First Steps,” starts with a mom recording her newborn child taking his first steps. She then seamlessly is able to MMS it to her mom and dad so they can share the moment. From there, they enter a conference call about the clip and child. Overall, this commercial sort of overviews how an iPhone can make sharing media and experiences an easy and exciting experience.

More iPhone ads appear on Apple’s website and TVs worldwide

Far too often, we still see people stuck in the Internet stone age when sharing files. They either try to email large files to recipients, or choose a file sharing service that bombards the recipient with advertisements before they can download the files. Email is great for sending small files, but when you want to share large files for work, send large files to friends and family, what service should you use? We hope to get you away from those horrendous file sharing services and share with out what we think are the best services to share large files online between friends, family, co-workers, or really anyone.     Apple’s iDisk ($99/year) Sure, you might have a beef with the price that Apple charges for its online services called MobileMe, and you might have chuckled to yourself during the re-launch of the service when it switched from being .Mac and experienced a ton of problems. But Apple provide an elegant solution for a price that’s not too bad when you consider all you’re getting. On the file storage side of things, you get 20GBs of storage with 200GBs of monthly data transfer (although we think they should just up the data transfer to unlimited). The online storage is shared with your email, but if you don’t use the email often, you can just reallocate the disk space so you have more iDisk storage than email storage. With MobileMe there’s no additional software to download and install. Just type in your username and password in the MobileMe System Preference panel and you’re good to go. When you enable iDisk, a new drive shows up on your Mac, giving you the ability to drag and drop files on it to upload them.
